Choosing a contractor to repair or replace your HVAC system can be a hard job. What do YOU as the homeowner need to take into consideration?<\/p>\n
First and foremost, the company should be licensed! Believe it or not, there are many so-called contractors that are practicing the business under the radar without one! If this is the case with someone you hire, they probably haven\u2019t had the proper training, which is why their company may not be licensed. You really don\u2019t want someone in your home that isn\u2019t going to do the job you\u2019ve requested properly and possibly not perform all steps necessary. Can you imagine if your gas line wasn\u2019t tied off? This could lead to huge problems, and because they aren\u2019t licensed, most likely, they won\u2019t be able to cover any damages.<\/p>\n
You also shouldn\u2019t accept a quote over the phone or internet. Because every single home is different, it\u2019s nearly impossible to give an accurate quote without seeing the home and the work involved with the job. No two homes or HVAC units are exactly the same and with so many factors to consider, quotes over the phone aren\u2019t reliable. In addition to not taking a quote without a licensed technician coming to your home to review the job, you shouldn\u2019t accept an estimate without getting it in writing with details about everything the company is going to complete. Verbal contracts aren\u2019t something that companies are required to stand by!<\/p>\n
Keep in mind that the lowest price doesn\u2019t always get you the best job. Sometimes it’s better to pay a little more for the company that backs up their work for a longer amount of time or even for the company that has better reviews and customer service when you get your quote. The cheapest price could easily come from a company that doesn\u2019t back their work and once you\u2019ve paid, they assume they\u2019re done!<\/p>\n
When choosing an HVAC contractor, do your research! Check the company\u2019s online reviews. Read up on what people say about their customer service and the work they do! However, we do suggest using caution on some sites. Google, Better Business Bureau and Angie\u2019s List don\u2019t filter their reviews. Yelp filters their reviews randomly and sometimes some very positive recommendations and\/or negative warnings won\u2019t show up because they aren\u2019t \u201crecommended.\u201d<\/p>\n
