{"id":1096,"date":"2016-03-15T07:29:19","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T07:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fhfurr.wpengine.com\/?p=1096"},"modified":"2016-03-15T07:29:19","modified_gmt":"2016-03-15T07:29:19","slug":"hvac-system-is-frozen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fhfurr.com\/offers\/hvac-system-is-frozen\/","title":{"rendered":"What To Do When Your HVAC Freezes Up!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is not normal for ice to form on your outdoor heat pump, and it is certainly cause for concern. <strong>There are several different scenarios for why this has happened to your HVAC system:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Bad Or Insufficient Air Flow<\/h3>\n<p>Airflow restriction is one of the biggest culprits and will cause the temperature of the system\u2019s evaporator coil to drop below freezing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Humidity in the air will collect on the coil causing ice to buildup and diminish the system\u2019s cooling capacity.<\/li>\n<li>Dirty air filters; collapsed, obstructed, and undersized ducts; damaged blower motors; dirt buildup on the evaporator coil \u2013 all can seriously impede airflow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Refrigerant leaks or low levels of refrigerant<\/h3>\n<p>Improper levels of refrigerant can cause drops in pressure for the evaporator coil, which allows moisture in the air to freeze and accumulate on the HVAC\u2019s evaporator coil.<\/p>\n<h3>Outdoor Temperature<\/h3>\n<p>Most outdoor HVAC units do not function well in temperatures below 55 degrees F. If temperatures get too low, the HVAC system does not operate properly, and that\u2019s when freeze-ups occur.<\/p>\n<h2>What To Do When Your Heat Pump or Air Conditioner Freezes Up<\/h2>\n<p>The outside heat pump or AC freeze-ups should be addressed immediately; a continued accumulation of ice can cause permanent damage to any outdoor unit.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few steps to take if your HVAC system does freeze up:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn it off and let it defrost completely.<\/li>\n<li>Once it has thawed completely, check the airflow.<\/li>\n<li>Replace dirty filters and remove any obstructions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In most cases, this is all that is needed.<\/p>\n<p>If this doesn\u2019t help you may have a more serious refrigeration or airflow problem and will require a professional NATE technician. <a href=\"\/contact\/\">Schedule an F.H.
