You don\u2019t need to become a technical expert, but a little research will help you ask the right questions and be able to assess the contractor\u2019s answers and experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Get Referrals.<\/strong>&nbsp;Get 3 \u2013 4 contractor referrals from people you know and trust. Referrals from the people you know and have had hands-on experience from the contractor goes a lot further than references from people you don\u2019t know. You are more likely to get both positive and negative feedback from people you know.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Trust But Verify.<\/strong>&nbsp;After identifying a few prospects, make sure each prospect is located locally and has a physical address. Then, call the Better Business Bureau to verify the company information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Take Time to Interview.<\/strong>&nbsp;Interview contractors. Do they perform background checks? Do they require drug screening? (You should know who is going to be in your home)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does the company have a license to do work in your area?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do they have dedicated customer and technical support employees? (you want to make sure you can talk to a live person when you need to)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How many employees does the company have?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does the company have a website? Does it look professional?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does the company provide their field personnel continuous education\/training?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What kind of warranty is offered with the service and\/or parts you need? Do they offer a written guarantee?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If permits are needed for the job, does the company manage this process?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do they have an on-site training facility and dedicated trainer to make sure the technicians are up-to-date on the latest equipment?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can the contractor supply you with a training program&nbsp;for their&nbsp;employees to improve their skills?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can the company provide you with a referral list or list of references for the work you are having done?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will the company take care of your home, by wearing shoe covers and using drop cloths for example?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is the company bonded and insured? Do they have proof?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does the contractor provide worker\u2019s compensation insurance in case of an accident in your home?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Remember, having a little patience can make you a smart consumer.
