Did You Know HVAC Maintenance Series: HVAC Duct Sealing

With August only a few weeks away, gear up for the last hot month of the summer! We’re back with our HVAC Maintenance series and we’ve got more tips for you for savings and efficiency!

Homeowners don’t often think of their heating and cooling ducts being a part of their HVAC system but they are, in fact, a huge part! These ducts are what distributes air evenly throughout your home, so when a leak occurs in these ducts, it causes a huge energy crisis within your home! You can fix this by using HVAC duct sealing!

“Did You Know”

Sealing and insulating your ducts can improve the efficiency of your heating and cooling system by as much as 20% or more?

Ducts that move the air to and from your HVAC system are some of the biggest energy wasters in your home. Not only does a leak in one of these ducts cause less efficient energy use, but it also causes the HVAC system to work harder to do its job, costing you more on your energy bill each month!

The best way to protect against leaks is to seal the ducts that run through the attic, crawlspace, unheated basement or garage, first. You can take a DIY approach and seal the connecting seams with duct sealant or metal-backed tape. Once those have been adequately sealed, you can wrap them in insulation to keep them from getting hot in the summer or cold in the winter.

Some ducts may be difficult to reach or work on, and that’s why we advise bringing in the professionals. Still, if you’re feeling up to it and want to try sealing yourself, anything will help cut that bill down! Being sure that your air ducts are clean will also help to save money by allowing your HVAC system’s workload to decrease while maintaining the environment you desire in your home. This also greatly improves indoor air quality.

Contact us today to have a technician come to your home and discuss how you can save energy and money, and improve your home’s comfort by sealing your ductwork!
